Project Overview

The Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Educational Project is an innovative intervention designed to bridge the educational divide for marginalized Almajiri children and out-of-school youth across Plateau State.

Implemented by ICIN Nigeria alongside consortium partners including the Institute of Education (University of Jos), NACOMYO, GSS Ungwan Rogo, and the Dawood Research Institute, the project combines basic literacy, numeracy, and vocational skill acquisition.

Key Strategic Achievements & Advocacy

The project recently celebrated the successful completion of its pilot cohort, with the first batch of Almajiri learners officially enrolled into the formal basic education system:

  • University Courtesy Visit: ICIN consortium partners paid an official courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor and Management team of the University of Jos to appreciate their academic support and secure ongoing collaboration.
  • National Commission Engagement: On June 19, 2025, the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children visited ICIN Nigeria to explore policy synergies and model replication.
  • Skill Acquisition: Equipping older youth with practical vocational skills to ensure long-term self-reliance.
